Creating basic structure for the learning portal

Purpose

At the end of this learning unit, the learner will get an overview of how to define the structure of a learning portal in ClickLearn Attain.

Learning objectives

  • Get an introduction to the concept of a structure in ClickLearn Attain
  • Add components and recordings to the portal structure
  • Define properties for the structure components

Debbie further explains to Nancy that once authors complete the recordings and adding assets for their Attain project, they need to create a learning portal that can be accessed by the learners in their organization.

Additionally, they may want to include references from some external websites as additional resources in their learning portal. To do all this, they need to create a basic structure for their learning portal.

Structure Overview

After you create your learning content, the first thing that you want to do is to share the content with your target learners. You want to present the content to them and take their feedback on whether the content meets their learning goals.

To present the content with your learners, you first need to arrange your recordings and assets in an organized and easy to understand design, which is called a portal structure in ClickLearn Attain. A structure helps to categorize your recordings and assets and segregate these according to the target audience.

You can give a customized look and feel to your learning portal by selecting the appropriate icons and colors for different components in the structure.

Creating Basic Structure

To start creating the structure for your project, select the Structure icon in the left panel of the Recordings screen to display the Structure and segments screen. There is a blank area in the center of the screen where you can drag and drop components and recordings from the right panel to create the structure for your learning portal.

Once you add all the required components to create the structure for the learning portal, save it by clicking the Save button. In case, you want to see how the learning portal will look like eventually, click the Preview button to see the structure that you just created.

In case, you do not like the structure while previewing it, you have the option to reset it. Click the three-dot icon at the top to display the option to reset the structure. The menu also provides option to import a structure from any of your existing projects.

You can also change the level of the various components to create the required hierarchy for the learning portal. The basic components that you can add to your structure are - Section, Heading, Text, Hyperlink, and Divider.

All recordings and assets included in the project are displayed in the right panel. To add these to your structure, simply drag and drop these at the required places.

Defining properties for the components

While adding the components to create a structure, you can define its basic properties in the right panel. For example, you can give a title and select an icon, color, and language for a section. You can also define structure properties from the context menu of any component.

The language(s) that you had selected while creating the project will display in the Languages panel. Here, you can select which languages you want the structure segments to be available in.

In the Advanced section, you can also define some advanced properties for the structure, which we will be discussing in the “Structure” mission.
