Let us now discuss about yet another useful feature in the Structure editor, which helps you direct content specifically to the intended users.
Oh really!!! That sounds interesting and useful. This means that the learners will get access only to the relevant content.
You are right. Let’s see how we can do that.
Segmentation is one of the advanced properties that you can apply for the components that you add in your structure. Segmentation enables you to create different sections or segments within the content based on your target end users.
By using segments, you get deployable links for your content that you can share with your end users. Once you publish the learning content, you can see the deployment links on the Publishing screen. You can also view these links in the publishing settings after the content is published.
If you create two segments, for example, sales and human resources, you can decide and send specific content deployment links to end users in these segments by separate e-mails. As such segments can be used as a tool for targeting content.
Segments help end users save time by only viewing the content that is relevant for them instead of searching through a huge pile of documentation.
The segments that you create in your learning portal structure, can also be used in your statistics to track content. These will be visible in the Statistics section of ClickLearn Studio for detailed and individual statistics.
The Segmentation option in the Advanced panel on the right allows you to define who can view the selected content.
For example, you have created some content for the marketing team and want only the marketing employees to view the content. You can select these topics and define the name and email id of the marketing team in the Create a new segment dialog box. By doing so, only the marketing team will have access to the selected topics.
To define segmentation, click the Create a new segment link. In the Create a new segment dialog box, specify a name for the new segment and save changes.
You can define segmentation for a component while adding the component in the Advanced panel or define it later by accessing Structure properties from the context menu of the component.
To add a component to an existing segment, navigate to the component’s properties and select the checkbox for the segment in the Segmentation box. Similarly, you can add a component to multiple segments if required.
The components which are not a part of any segment, will be displayed to all end users.
When you produce and publish your project, you can see separate links for all segments on the Publishing screen. You can copy and share the relevant content links with the intended end users.
